Sun May 04 09:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Star Wars’ Bail Organa Recast in “Andor”: Scheduling Conflicts Led to Benjamin Bratt Taking Over

**Los Angeles, CA** – The Star Wars universe has seen a significant casting change in the Disney+ series “Andor.” Veteran actor Jimmy Smits, who previously portrayed Senator Bail Organa in several Star Wars films and series, has been replaced by Benjamin Bratt for the show’s second season.

According to “Andor” creator Tony Gilroy, the recasting was due to scheduling conflicts. “We couldn’t work it out,” Gilroy told Entertainment Weekly. “The scheduling didn’t work out. We really tried hard, but he wasn’t available and couldn’t make it.” Gilroy added that bringing back established characters is a complex process, involving significant costs and logistical challenges.

The decision to replace Smits was ultimately made by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, who suggested Bratt for the role. Gilroy praised Bratt, describing him as “a wonderful human being” and a welcome addition to the cast.

Bratt’s first appearance as Organa was a brief cameo in episode 6 of “Andor’s” second season, a strategic move by Gilroy to manage audience reaction to the recast. “I put him in episode 6 in an arbitrary way so people will get the conversation out of the way,” Gilroy explained. “I didn’t want the guy’s work to be confused with his introduction.”

The unexpected casting change has sparked considerable discussion among Star Wars fans, but the showrunners are confident that Bratt will bring a compelling portrayal to the iconic character. With the introduction now complete, viewers can expect to see Bratt’s Senator Organa play a more significant role in upcoming episodes.
