**Salem, India (May 3, 2025)** – A 60-year-old woman, T. Annalakshmi, was found dead in a house fire in Kondappanaickenpatti, Salem, on Saturday. Annalakshmi, a resident of Dindigul district, had been staying alone in a rented house while receiving daily visits from her daughter, Kalaiselvi, who lives in Salem.

Neighbors discovered smoke emanating from the locked house and alerted the Kannankurichi police. Upon entering, police found Annalakshmi deceased in her bed. The body has been sent to Salem Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Police suspect Annalakshmi may have suffered an electric shock while operating a nearby switch box installed for her convenience due to mobility issues. The ensuing fire is believed to have caused her death. An investigation into the incident is underway.
