Sat May 03 10:41:44 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu CM Condemns India’s Low Press Freedom Ranking
**Chennai, May 3, 2025** – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin sharply criticized India’s ranking of 151st in the World Press Freedom Index on World Press Freedom Day. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mr. Stalin attributed the low ranking to the BJP government’s alleged suppression of journalists and media outlets.
He accused the BJP regime of fearing scrutiny, citing raids on newsrooms, imprisonment of reporters, and silencing of those exposing corruption, human rights violations, and the government’s agenda. Mr. Stalin emphasized the crucial role of a free press in a democracy, stating that without fearless journalism, democracy suffers. He called for the protection of press freedom not just for the media, but for every citizen’s right to information and freedom of expression.
