Fri May 02 20:30:00 UTC 2025: ## Severe Storms Expected to Hit Houston This Weekend

**HOUSTON, TX (May 2, 2025)** – A stalled cold front moving into the Houston area is expected to bring severe thunderstorms Friday afternoon through Saturday morning. The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded the severe weather threat, warning of the potential for fast-moving, large storm cells with heavy lightning, downpours, and damaging wind gusts exceeding 50 mph.

After several days of heat and humidity, the “cap” inhibiting storm development over Houston is finally lifting. Storms are most likely to begin in northern counties Friday afternoon, and will persist into Saturday morning as the cold front sweeps through the region.

Residents are cautioned to prepare for the possibility of significant rainfall, with localized flooding possible due to slow-moving storms potentially dropping an inch or more of rain in a short time.

KPRC2 Weather and Click2Houston.com will provide updates throughout the day on storm intensity and timing. Residents are urged to monitor these sources for the latest information.
