Sat May 03 16:50:00 UTC 2025: ## Sabalenka and Gauff to Clash in Thrilling Madrid Open Final
**Madrid, Spain** – World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and No. 4 Coco Gauff will face off in the final of the Mutua Madrid Open on Saturday, May 3rd. The highly anticipated match, the culmination of the fifth WTA 1000 event of the 2025 season, will begin no earlier than 6:30 p.m. CEST (12:30 p.m. ET) at the Caja Mágica.
Sabalenka, boasting a tour-leading 30 wins this year and a 30-5 overall record, is making her 37th career final appearance and sixth of 2025. Her impressive run includes titles in Brisbane and Miami, and runner-up finishes in the Australian Open, Indian Wells, and Stuttgart. This is her fourth Madrid final.
Gauff, on the other hand, is appearing in her 11th career final and first since winning the 2024 WTA Finals in Riyadh. Her 19-6 season record reflects her strong form, culminating in a stunning upset victory over Iga Swiatek in the semifinals. This is a particularly impressive feat, as Gauff lost the first set 6-0 against Yastremska, putting her on the verge of becoming only the second player to win a WTA title after such a devastating loss (the first being Angelique Kerber at Linz 2013).
Both players have already secured €523,870 in prize money and 650 WTA ranking points by reaching the final. The winner will take home €985,030 and 1,000 points. While Sabalenka is guaranteed to remain World No. 1, Gauff could ascend to No. 2 with a victory. Their head-to-head record is currently 5-4 in Gauff’s favor, with Gauff holding a 1-0 advantage on clay and in finals.
The doubles final will take place on Sunday, May 4th at 3:30 p.m. CEST (9:30 a.m. ET).
