**VIZIANAGARAM, Andhra Pradesh, May 3, 2025** – The Vizianagaram Municipal Corporation is intensifying its efforts to ensure planned development and improve property tax collection. Municipal Commissioner P. Nallanayya announced a crackdown on illegal construction, emphasizing adherence to approved building plans. He stated that licensed surveyors and technical personnel are responsible for overseeing construction projects and ensuring compliance with municipal regulations. Homeowners must submit self-certificates confirming adherence to building norms, and any deviations will result in demolition. The initiative is yielding positive results in property tax collection. April 2025 saw a significant increase in revenue, reaching ₹9.75 crore, compared to ₹5.29 crore in April 2024. This surge is attributed to a special campaign offering a 5% discount on property tax payments for 2025-2026. The corporation is also aggressively pursuing outstanding property tax dues from government offices and other entities, totaling approximately ₹46.9 crore, and has strengthened its legal team to recover arrears through court action. Further efforts are underway to collect taxes on vacant land.
