Sat May 03 10:00:00 UTC 2025: ## India Withholds Pakistani Information Minister’s Social Media Account Amid Heightened Tensions
NEW DELHI/ISLAMABAD – India has withheld the X (formerly Twitter) account of Pakistan’s Information Minister, Ataullah Tarar, citing legal reasons. This action follows Tarar’s April 30th press conference where he claimed India was planning a military strike within 24-36 hours, a claim India has not responded to publicly. The move comes amidst escalating cross-border tensions sparked by a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd.
Pakistan has reported nine consecutive nights of ceasefire violations along the Line of Control since the attack. Tarar warned of catastrophic consequences should India initiate military action, asserting Pakistan would defend its sovereignty. He also criticized India’s actions as being judge, jury, and executioner. Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khwaja Asif similarly warned of the possibility of war within days.
Tensions have soared since the Pahalgam attack, leading India to downgrade diplomatic ties with Pakistan, suspend the Indus Water Treaty, revoke Pakistani visas, and close the Wagah-Attari border. The escalation has also affected other Pakistani social media presence; Instagram accounts of several Pakistani actors and YouTube channels of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and major news outlets have also been blocked in India.
