**New Delhi, May 3, 2025** – The Delhi High Court has ordered the Indian government to intervene on behalf of three Indian nationals sentenced to death in Indonesia for drug smuggling. Raju Muthukumaran, Selvadurai Dinakaran, and Govindasamy Vimalkandhan, all from Tamil Nadu, were convicted by the Tanjung Balai Karimun District Court for allegedly smuggling 106 kilograms of crystal meth.

The court directed the Indian Consulate in Indonesia to ensure the men receive adequate legal representation to pursue appeals. The Ministry of External Affairs has also been instructed to engage with the Indonesian government diplomatically to protect the convicts’ rights under international conventions or bilateral agreements. The High Court’s order follows a petition filed by the convicts’ wives, who highlighted the stringent appeal deadlines and the men’s limited financial resources. The wives stated that the men were the primary breadwinners for their families, working for a shipping company in Singapore. The court has scheduled a further hearing on May 6th.
