**Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala – May 2, 2025** – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today officially inaugurated the Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala, a landmark event positioning the southern state as a major player in global maritime trade. The semi-automated port, touted as one of the most technologically advanced transshipment ports globally, is expected to significantly reduce vessel turnaround times and boost India’s capacity to handle large container ships, lessening reliance on foreign ports. Thiruvananthapuram experienced heightened security measures in anticipation of the Prime Minister’s arrival.

Following the inauguration, PM Modi embarked on a visit to Andhra Pradesh, where he laid the foundation stone for and inaugurated various development projects totaling over ₹58,000 crore in Amaravati. This marks the second time in a decade that Modi has launched construction works in Amaravati, the first being in October 2015. The projects are expected to significantly contribute to Andhra Pradesh’s development. The Prime Minister’s two-day visit included an overnight stay at the Kerala Raj Bhavan.
