Thu May 01 16:20:53 UTC 2025: ## India-Pakistan Tensions Escalate After Pahalgam Terror Attack

**Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir –** Cross-border shelling between India and Pakistan continued for a seventh consecutive night, escalating tensions already high following a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam. The April 22nd attack, claimed by the Resistance Front (a Lashkar-e-Taiba affiliate), killed 26 tourists.

Despite a hotline conversation between the two countries’ military chiefs on Tuesday, Pakistani forces initiated unprovoked firing along the Line of Control (LoC) across three Jammu & Kashmir districts. Indian forces responded with proportionate counter-fire.

The attack prompted India to downgrade diplomatic ties with Pakistan and implement several retaliatory measures, including airspace closure. Pakistan mirrored these actions. Adding to the heightened tensions, Pakistan appointed Lieutenant General Muhammad Asim Malik, the serving ISI chief, as its new National Security Advisor.

Investigations into the Pahalgam attack are underway, with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Director General arriving in Pahalgam on Thursday to oversee the probe. The escalating situation raises serious concerns about regional stability.
