Thu May 01 05:40:00 UTC 2025: ## San Jose Man Pleads Guilty to Bombing PG&E Transformers, Faces 8-10 Years in Prison

**San Jose, CA –** A 38-year-old engineer, Peter Karasev, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to federal charges stemming from two separate bombings of PG&E transformers in San Jose last year. The attacks, which occurred on December 8th near Westfield Oakridge Mall and January 5th near the Plaza Del Rey shopping center, left over 1,450 people without power for nearly 16 hours in the first incident, and impacted numerous homes and businesses in the second.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of California, Karasev admitted to planting the explosive devices. A subsequent search of his home revealed a massive arsenal of homemade explosive devices, over 300 pounds of bomb-making materials, hazardous chemicals, firearms, and remote detonation devices. Investigators also discovered that Karasev had conducted extensive online research on explosives, infrastructure attacks, and geopolitical conflicts prior to the bombings.

Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick Robbins stated that the potential for widespread destruction was significant. Karasev faces a sentence of eight to ten years in federal prison and has agreed to pay $104,076.26 in restitution. His sentencing is scheduled for August 19th in San Jose federal court.
