Tue Apr 29 10:07:55 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Teachers to Protest School Restructuring Plans
**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh –** The Andhra Pradesh Teachers Federation (APTF) announced a series of protests beginning May 5th against the state government’s proposed school restructuring program and other education policies. The federation leaders, Ch. Manjula and K. Bhanumurthy, criticize the plan to merge classes 1-5, calling it detrimental to the education sector and adding to existing confusion stemming from previous incoherent policies.
The APTF’s protests will escalate from demonstrations at old taluka headquarters on May 5th to district-level dharnas on May 9th, culminating in a state-level protest in Vijayawada on May 14th. The federation opposes the proposed class mergers, inconsistencies in teacher-student ratios, and variations in staffing allocations across schools.
Key demands include maintaining the current primary and high school structure, integrating pre-primary education into primary schools, ensuring a minimum of two Secondary Grade Teacher posts in every primary school, implementing a uniform teacher-student ratio, and creating additional sections in overcrowded high schools. The APTF also urges the government to adhere to the State-wide seniority lists for teacher promotions, implement Telugu as the medium of instruction as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, and address outstanding financial dues, including the 12th Pay Revision Commission (PRC) arrears.
