**Hyderabad, India –** After a three-year journey marked by both challenges and accolades, the Telugu indie film “Muthayya” is finally set to stream on ETV Win from May 1st. The film, written and directed by Bhaskhar Maurya, tells the story of a 70-year-old man from rural Telangana fulfilling his lifelong dream of acting.
“Muthayya,” starring Sudhakar Reddy of “Balagam” fame, premiered at the UK Asian Film Festival in 2022 and subsequently won several awards, including Best Feature Film in Indian Languages at the Kolkata International Film Festival. Despite initial difficulties securing distribution, the film’s perseverance mirrors its central theme: it’s never too late to dream big.
Maurya, inspired by the burgeoning short film culture in his hometown of Wanaparthy, created the film using largely local talent and shooting on location. The film’s authenticity is further enhanced by its ambient sound design, reflecting the rural Telangana setting. Maurya’s determination to maintain creative control also played a crucial role in the film’s success, despite pressure from some producers to alter the script for commercial viability.
