**Mandya, Karnataka – April 29, 2025** – The bodies of a Bengaluru man, Kumaraswamy (38), and his two children, aged 3 and 8, were discovered inside a submerged car in the Visvesvaraya canal in Mandya district today. The family had been reported missing since April 17th after they failed to arrive at their home in K.R. Nagar following a planned trip to the KRS reservoir.
Police believe the car veered off the road and plunged into the canal, possibly due to a collision with a stone. The vehicle’s damaged front suggests the driver lost control. The car resurfaced recently due to a decrease in the canal’s water level.
This tragic incident is likely to reignite calls for improved safety measures along the Visvesvaraya canal. A previous district administration committee recommended the installation of safety barriers and warning signs along the canal and other water bodies in Mandya, following numerous similar accidents in the past. A case has been registered at the KRS police station.
