Sun Apr 27 18:34:18 UTC 2025: ## India Conducts Military Exercises Amidst Rising Tensions with Pakistan
**NEW DELHI, April 28, 2025** – India has conducted significant military exercises, including naval anti-ship firings and air force maneuvers, following a recent terror attack in Pahalgam and continued ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC). Tensions between the two countries are escalating.
For three consecutive nights, Pakistan has engaged in unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC, prompting retaliatory responses from India. While both sides have taken reciprocal measures, neither has abandoned the 2022 ceasefire agreement.
The Indian Navy showcased its capabilities on Sunday with multiple anti-ship firings, utilizing BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. These missiles, jointly developed with Russia, boast a range exceeding 450 km and are deployed across all three Indian armed forces. The Navy’s latest guided missile destroyer, INS Surat, also recently successfully fired a medium-range surface-to-air missile. Furthermore, the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant is currently deployed in the Arabian Sea.
The Indian Air Force, meanwhile, is conducting Exercise Akraman, a routine training exercise, and has scheduled Exercise Dhruvtara for early May. India’s possession of 36 Rafale jets equipped with long-range missiles further strengthens its military posture. The deployment of S-400 Triumf air defense systems also enhances India’s defensive capabilities.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar discussed the Pahalgam attack with his British counterpart, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. The British Foreign Secretary also spoke with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister, urging de-escalation.
While India is not currently mobilizing its military on a large scale, the ongoing exercises serve as a clear demonstration of its preparedness and military strength. The potential for further action remains, although the element of surprise, present in previous operations, is absent. India’s response will likely depend on assessing Pakistan’s potential retaliation and the risk of further escalation. Pakistan has also conducted its own naval war games in the Arabian Sea.
