NEW DELHI, April 28, 2025 – The Indian Ministry of Education is implementing heightened security measures for the upcoming National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) medical entrance exam, scheduled for May 4th, following alleged irregularities in the 2024 exam. The exam, to be held across over 5,000 centers in more than 550 cities, will feature multi-layered security including police escorts for exam materials and rigorous checks at examination centers.
The Ministry is holding meetings with District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police nationwide to ensure smooth and fair conduct. District-level committees are being activated to manage logistics, security, and crisis response. Coaching centers and online platforms are also under surveillance to prevent cheating. Duty Magistrates will inspect all centers, with personal visits by DMs and SPs to assess preparedness.
Last year’s NEET-UG exam, along with the National Eligibility Test (NET), faced allegations of irregularities including paper leaks, prompting the formation of a panel to improve exam integrity. The UGC-NET was subsequently cancelled, and the CBI is investigating both incidents. Two other exams, CSIR-UGC NET and NEET-PG, were also preemptively cancelled last year. This year’s increased security measures aim to prevent a repeat of these incidents and ensure a fair and transparent exam process.
