Mon Apr 28 12:20:00 UTC 2025: ## MyPillow CEO’s Lawyers Face Sanctions for AI-Generated Legal Brief

**New York, NY** – A federal judge has ordered sanctions against the lawyers representing MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell in a defamation lawsuit after it was revealed they used artificial intelligence (AI) to generate a legal brief containing numerous errors.

District Judge Nina Wang discovered nearly 30 defective citations in the brief filed by attorneys Christopher Kachouroff and Jennifer DeMaster, including misquotes and references to nonexistent cases. The attorneys initially claimed the filing was an accidental upload of a draft, but later admitted to using AI and failing to properly review the generated text before submission, violating Rule 11 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.

Judge Wang has ordered Kachouroff and DeMaster to explain why they shouldn’t face sanctions, including potential referral to disciplinary proceedings. The judge is considering sanctions against the law firm and Lindell himself. The brief was submitted in February as part of a defamation lawsuit filed by Eric Coomer, a former Dominion Voting Systems employee, against Lindell, MyPillow, and FrankSpeech. The attorneys have until May 5th to respond to the court’s order. The case highlights the emerging legal challenges presented by the use of AI in legal document preparation.
