Mon Apr 28 04:22:17 UTC 2025: ## India Poised for Military Retaliation After Deadly Pahalgam Terror Attack

**New Delhi** – Following the deadliest terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir since 2019, India is bracing for a significant military response against Pakistan, according to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. The attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 civilians, has fueled intense national pressure for retaliation.

Tharoor, a former diplomat, highlighted a long-standing pattern of Pakistan denying responsibility for cross-border terrorism despite ample evidence of training and arming terrorist groups. He cited previous retaliatory actions by India following the 2016 Uri and 2019 Pulwama attacks – surgical strikes and the Balakot air strike, respectively – suggesting this time the response will be even stronger.

“Some sort of visible military response is unavoidable,” Tharoor stated, emphasizing the public’s expectation for action. While he declined to specify the nature, location, or timing of the potential retaliation, he confirmed that India is considering a range of options, including diplomatic, economic, intelligence, covert, and overt military measures.

Tharoor also responded to inflammatory comments from Pakistan Peoples Party chief Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, warning that any further aggression from Pakistan would be met with a forceful response. He cautioned Pakistan to understand that attacks on Indian citizens will not go unpunished.

The Pahalgam attack, described as the deadliest since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019, has been linked to a Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba affiliated group. The incident has further deteriorated already strained relations between India and Pakistan, leading to the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty and other bilateral agreements, including the Simla Agreement, and escalating tensions along the Line of Control. Both countries have also engaged in retaliatory visa cancellations.
