Mon Apr 28 10:34:51 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Police Boast Five-Minute Emergency Response Time

**Chennai, Tamil Nadu –** The Greater Chennai City Police (GCP) announced today that its response time to emergency calls has been reduced to an average of five minutes. This improvement is attributed to a streamlined system utilizing the State Police Master Control Room (SPMCR), which receives calls on 100/112 and dispatches them to the appropriate patrol vehicles.

The GCP cited several examples of swift responses, including the apprehension of two burglary suspects within minutes of a homeowner’s distress call from overseas and the successful intervention of a woman attempting suicide. The force utilizes 234 four-wheeled patrol vehicles, with most stations deploying three or four vehicles for emergency response, operating 24/7 on a shift basis.

City Police Commissioner A. Arun has emphasized the importance of rapid response to emergencies. While the system shows significant improvement, with 60,417 calls received on helpline 100 alone so far this year, the GCP acknowledges some public complaints regarding call connection delays. Additional helplines for women, elders, and other vulnerable groups have also seen significant call volume. The GCP is actively working to address these remaining concerns.
