Sun Apr 27 23:50:00 UTC 2025: **Telangana Activists Demand End to Chhattisgarh Anti-Maoist Operation**

HYDERABAD, TELANGANA – April 27, 2025 – Communist parties, civil rights leaders, and academics in Telangana are vehemently criticizing Operation Kagar, a central government anti-Maoist operation underway in the Kanker forests bordering Chhattisgarh. They are demanding an immediate halt to the operation and a resumption of peace talks with Maoist groups.

CPI state secretary Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao stated that the combing operations are inappropriate, especially considering the Maoists’ repeated offers for peace talks. Professor Haragopal, a prominent civil rights leader, echoed these sentiments, calling for an end to the violence against Adivasi (indigenous) communities in central India. He emphasized that the current conflict disproportionately harms innocent civilians.

Other prominent figures, including Professor Gaddam Lakshman, president of the state’s civil rights organization, and Dr. Gopinath, president of Bharat Bachao, condemned the operation. They described the government’s actions as an intra-state war against Adivasis and an undemocratic act. Professor Ravi Marut and Nunna Nageswar Rao, CPM Khammam district secretary, further criticized the deployment of soldiers within the country’s borders against its own citizens.

A peaceful rally was held in Khammam on Saturday, organized by various political parties and civil society groups, to protest Operation Kagar. Participants accused corporate and multinational interests of influencing the government’s refusal to engage in dialogue with the Maoists. The rally was attended by representatives from CPI, CPI(M), CPI(ML) New Democracy, Telangana Jana Samithi, BSP, Telangana People’s JAC, TPJF, District Intellectuals’ Platform, SFI, and Muslim JAC.
