**London, UK** – Just Stop Oil, the British environmental activist group known for its dramatic and often controversial protests, has concluded its three-year campaign of civil disobedience. The group, which primarily advocated for an end to UK oil and gas extraction by 2030, held its final demonstration on Saturday, a peaceful march from Parliament to Shell headquarters, where participants removed their signature orange vests.

Over the past three years, Just Stop Oil garnered significant attention – and condemnation – for its actions. These included disrupting high-profile events like Wimbledon tennis matches and targeting works of art, such as Vincent van Gogh’s Sunflowers. More than 3,000 protesters have been arrested, with 11 currently incarcerated, including co-founder Roger Hallam.

The group claims victory in achieving its initial goal: halting the approval of new oil and gas projects in the UK after the Labour government suspended new North Sea exploration licenses. However, Labour leader Keir Starmer has distanced himself from the group, criticizing their tactics and calling for the full force of the law to be applied.

Just Stop Oil spokesperson Mel Carrington acknowledged the effectiveness of their high-profile actions in garnering media attention, but noted that factors like the re-election of Donald Trump and increased government repression have made their work more challenging. While the group’s future strategy remains unclear, Carrington confirmed they will focus on legal challenges, advocating for imprisoned activists, and fighting against what they see as oppressive anti-protest laws, while also collaborating with other environmental groups.
