Sun Apr 27 05:33:56 UTC 2025: ## Aiyar Links Pahalgam Attack to Unresolved Partition Issues

**New Delhi, April 27, 2025** – Veteran Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar has linked the recent Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 people, to unresolved issues stemming from the Partition of India. Speaking at a book launch on Saturday, Aiyar questioned whether the attack reflects a continuing sense of alienation among India’s Muslim population.

Aiyar argued that the Partition, while partially prevented by figures like Gandhi and Nehru, ultimately resulted from differing visions of India’s nationhood. He highlighted the ongoing consequences of this division, stating that India still grapples with the question of how to fully integrate its Muslim population. He posed the question: Do Muslims in India feel accepted, cherished, and celebrated?

Aiyar further referenced the 1971 war and the creation of Bangladesh, suggesting that Pakistan’s ambition to be the protector of Muslims in the subcontinent ended with that event. He emphasized the importance of recognizing the multi-faceted nature of identity, arguing that a failure to do so contributed to Pakistan’s 1971 crisis.

The former Union Minister’s remarks come in the wake of the April 22nd Pahalgam attack, where terrorists gunned down tourists in south Kashmir. His comments highlight a continuing debate about the integration of India’s Muslim community and the lingering impact of historical events on contemporary issues.
