Sat Apr 26 01:20:00 UTC 2025: ## Eagles Trade Up, Draft Alabama Linebacker Jihaad Campbell
**Philadelphia, PA –** The Philadelphia Eagles bolstered their Super Bowl-winning defense Thursday night, trading up to select Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell with the 31st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Eagles sent their original first-round pick (No. 32) and a fifth-round pick (No. 164) to the Kansas City Chiefs to secure Campbell.
Campbell, a South Jersey native who starred at Timber Creek Regional High School before attending IMG Academy, had a standout 2024 season at Alabama, leading the team with 117 tackles, including 11.5 for loss, five sacks, and an interception. Despite being ranked as a top-15 prospect by CBS Sports, Campbell may have slipped due to a torn labrum. However, NFL Network reports he’s expected to be ready for training camp.
The selection addresses a need for the Eagles, with linebacker Nakobe Dean expected to miss time due to a knee injury. Campbell is projected to start alongside Zack Baun. This is the Eagles’ first first-round linebacker selection since 1979.
Eagles General Manager Howie Roseman, known for his draft-day maneuvering, actively pursued Campbell, reportedly attempting multiple trades before finalizing the deal with Kansas City. This continues a trend of aggressive first-round trades for the Eagles in recent years, including moves to select Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis.
The Eagles’ continued interest in Alabama players is also evident, following recent selections of DeVonta Smith, Landon Dickerson, and Tyler Steen. The team’s focus on strengthening their defense, even after a dominant 2024 season, underscores their commitment to sustained success.
