Sat Apr 26 01:20:00 UTC 2025: ## India Responds to Kashmir Attack; Tensions Soar with Pakistan

**Kolkata, India –** Following a militant attack in Pehelgaon, Kashmir, tensions between India and Pakistan have escalated sharply. A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan from Hooghly, West Bengal, was apprehended by Pakistan after mistakenly crossing the Punjab border. The incident follows the targeted killing of Hindus in Pehelgaon, prompting widespread outrage and demands for strong action from across India. Prime Minister Modi has warned of “unimaginable punishment” for those responsible.

The central government admitted security lapses at an all-party meeting. Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Kashmir today. In response to the attack, India has suspended water agreements with Pakistan, halted border crossings, and is revoking all Pakistani visas, ordering their holders to leave the country by April 27. A strong message was conveyed to Pakistani diplomats in Delhi.

Meanwhile, domestic news includes ongoing protests by job seekers demanding the release of a merit list; a counter-protest near the SSC office; a murder in Barasat; and severe weather conditions in North Sikkim, causing landslides and stranding numerous tourists. Protests are also underway in Kolkata, with All India Muslim Personal Board members staging a demonstration against the Pehelgaon attack. The Indian Navy successfully test-fired a missile from INS Surat and deployed INS Vikrant, an aircraft carrier.

A case involving Sukant and Subhasish has been filed, and the High Court’s Chief Justice Division Bench declined to intervene. West Bengal is experiencing extreme heat, with a heatwave warning issued for several western districts. Thunderstorms and rain are forecast for Sunday.
