Sat Apr 26 14:00:23 UTC 2025: ## Top Police Official Promoted to Head Fire and Rescue Services in India
**Thiruvananthapuram, April 26, 2025** – Manoj Abraham, formerly the Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), has been promoted to Director General of Police (DGP) and appointed as the Director General of Fire and Rescue Services, the General Administration Department announced Saturday. The promotion, effective May 1st, fills the vacancy left by the retirement of K. Padmakumar.
To accommodate the appointment, a one-year ex-cadre post of Director General, Fire and Rescue Services has been created, equivalent in rank to the Director of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau.
Mr. Abraham’s appointment follows his October 2024 replacement of Ajith Kumar as ADGP (Law and Order). Mr. Kumar was removed after allegations from the Opposition and Nilambur MLA P.V. Anvar, who accused him of collaborating with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and hindering the Thrissur Pooram festival to benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during the Lok Sabha elections.
