Sat Apr 26 12:50:30 UTC 2025: **Mysuru, Karnataka, April 26, 2025** – The All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) launched a signature campaign today to protest the Karnataka state government’s plan to close 6,200 government schools. The campaign, held near Gandhi Square in Mysuru, aims to collect five million signatures.

AIDSO district secretary Nitin criticized the government’s decision, citing “low enrollment” as the justification for closures. He argued that these schools are vital for underprivileged children and that the closures represent a “conspiracy” to deny poor children access to education. Nitin highlighted the poor conditions of many schools, including over 6,000 single-teacher schools, over 3,500 lacking adequate toilets or drinking water, numerous dilapidated buildings, and over 59,000 vacant teacher posts.

The AIDSO called the government’s plan “unscientific,” “undemocratic,” and “anti-people,” urging the government to improve existing facilities instead of closing schools. They emphasized the need for immediate action to address the critical issues plaguing government schools in Karnataka.
