**Hyderabad, Telangana, April 25, 2025** – Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has won the Telangana Legislative Council’s Hyderabad Local Authorities’ constituency election. Effendi secured a decisive victory with 63 out of 88 votes cast, defeating Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate N. Goutham Rao, who received 25 votes. A total of 112 voters were eligible.
The ruling Congress party and the main opposition Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) did not field candidates in this election, but Congress publicly supported the AIMIM candidate as part of a pre-election agreement. The BJP and Congress engaged in pre-election sparring, with the BJP accusing Congress of appeasing the AIMIM, and Congress accusing the BJP of divisive, Hindu-nationalist politics.
The electorate comprised 81 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) corporators and 31 ex-officio members (MLAs, MPs, and MLCs). The election took place on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
