Fri Apr 25 15:10:00 UTC 2025: ## Harshal Patel’s IPL 2025 struggles: Two-time Purple Cap winner trails behind
**Hyderabad, April 25, 2025** – Harshal Patel, a two-time IPL Purple Cap winner, is significantly underperforming in the current season. Despite a high salary and high expectations after joining Sunrisers Hyderabad, Patel has failed to replicate his previous success.
Patel, known for his exceptional bowling prowess, previously won the Purple Cap in 2021 (32 wickets with RCB) and 2024 (24 wickets with Punjab Kings). This achievement places him alongside only Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Dwayne Bravo as two-time Purple Cap winners.
However, in the current IPL 2025 season, Patel’s performance has been underwhelming. In seven matches, he has taken only 9 wickets from 23 overs bowled. His best performance was 4 wickets for 42 runs against Punjab Kings. In matches against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, he failed to complete his four-over quota, failing to take any wickets in those games.
Sunrisers Hyderabad themselves are struggling this season, with only two wins from their first eight matches. While their explosive batting lineup initially promised a 300+ run potential, their performance has fallen considerably short of expectations. The team’s bowling attack, once a strong point, also appears to be underperforming, with neither Patel nor captain Pat Cummins featuring amongst the top 20 wicket-takers.
