TIRUPUR, April 25, 2025 – Farmers in Tiruppur expressed anger and frustration on Friday after District Collector T. Christuraj abruptly left a monthly agriculture grievances redressal meeting, causing a significant delay and leaving many unresolved issues.

The incident occurred after a Water Resources Department official’s response regarding water theft allegations ignited the farmers’ ire. Following the ensuing heated exchange, the Collector announced a 10-minute break, which unexpectedly extended to over half an hour. His absence prompted concerns about the meeting’s effectiveness, with farmers questioning whether their grievances would be addressed. Subordinate officials eventually resumed the session, but the Collector did not return.

A press release from the district administration later claimed that progress on previous issues was reviewed and 120 new petitions were received. It stated that the Collector had instructed officials to act swiftly on the petitions. However, attempts to reach the Collector for comment were unsuccessful. The unexplained absence and the subsequent handling of the meeting have left farmers feeling unheard and dissatisfied.
