Thu Apr 24 12:40:00 UTC 2025: ## India’s Retaliatory Threat After Pulwama-Like Attack Leaves Pakistan Fearful, Says Ex-Diplomat
**New Delhi, India** – Following a recent terrorist attack in Pulwama, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has vowed strong retaliation against the perpetrators and their sponsors, sparking fear in Pakistan. Modi stated that India will identify and punish every terrorist involved in the attack.
This strong stance has prompted Abdul Basit, a former Pakistani High Commissioner to India, to predict potential military action by India within days. Speaking to the Pakistani newspaper *Express Tribune*, Basit expressed concern that India might launch cross-border strikes, similar to its responses to the 2016 Uri and 2019 Pulwama attacks. He warned of potential increased terrorist attacks in Balochistan and other parts of Pakistan as a consequence.
Basit further commented on India’s consideration of suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, stating that while immediate diplomatic repercussions may be limited, the move is largely symbolic due to India’s lack of infrastructure to divert the western rivers’ flow. He emphasized that the treaty, brokered by the World Bank in 1960, cannot be unilaterally suspended or amended and urged Pakistan to engage with the World Bank to formulate a robust diplomatic and legal response. He also predicted potential law and order issues in Pakistan in the coming days.
