Tue Apr 22 22:15:00 UTC 2025: ## Terrorist Attack in Kashmir Kills 26, Mostly Tourists

**SRINAGAR, KASHMIR —** A brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, left 26 people dead and several others injured. The majority of the victims were tourists. The attack, described as the deadliest in Kashmir in recent years, involved gunmen who indiscriminately opened fire on tourists in the Baisaran Valley, an area known as “Mini Switzerland.”

According to Asavari Jagdale, a 26-year-old eyewitness and daughter of one of the victims, the terrorists targeted a group of tourists who were sheltering in tents. Ms. Jagdale recounted how the terrorists, dressed in clothing similar to local police, demanded that her father recite an Islamic verse. Upon his failure to do so, they shot him multiple times. Her uncle was also fatally shot. Ms. Jagdale, her mother, and another female relative survived the attack.

The terrorists, according to Ms. Jagdale, accused the victims of supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi before carrying out the killings. She stated that there was a delay in the arrival of security forces, leaving the tourists vulnerable.

Local residents and security forces later evacuated the survivors to the Pahalgam Club. As of Wednesday morning, the fate of several individuals, including Ms. Jagdale’s father and uncle, remained unknown. The incident has prompted widespread condemnation and heightened security concerns in the region. Authorities are currently investigating the attack.
