PUDUCHERRY, April 22, 2025 – Hundreds of school students in Puducherry experienced the unique phenomenon of Zero Shadow Day (ZSD) on Monday. The event, organized by the Pondicherry Science Forum in collaboration with the Directorate of School Education, saw participation from 218 schools across the region.
Between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., students observed the sun’s zenith, creating a brief period where shadows disappeared. This occurs twice a year when the sun’s declination aligns perfectly with the location’s latitude. Teachers, specially trained as part of the Samagra Shiksha program, explained the scientific principles behind the event to students. Representatives from the Pondicherry Science Forum oversaw the program’s implementation across participating schools.
