Sun Apr 20 16:40:15 UTC 2025: ## Chennai Streamlines Water Connection Applications with Online Portal

**Chennai, India (April 21, 2025)** – The Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (Metrowater) has announced a streamlined online application process for new water connections in the city. The new system, launched in January 2025, allows residents to apply for connections through a dedicated portal (https://wsc.chennaimetrowater.in/#/nc/login), eliminating much of the previous paperwork.

Applicants must provide detailed information about their property, including building type, assessment status, and infrastructure details such as sewage connections and rainwater harvesting systems. Required documents include a copy of the property assessment from the Chennai Corporation, planning permission (not mandatory), completion certificate, proof of infrastructure development charges paid, photographs of rainwater harvesting structures (mandatory), and a declaration of grey water separation (mandatory for two-storey buildings). Aadhaar and ration cards are also needed for address verification.

The connection fee is ₹7,500 per dwelling unit, with an advance payment of ₹3,000 required if the building is not assessed for water tax. Payment plans are available, allowing consumers of single-storey buildings to pay in 10 installments and those in buildings up to three floors to pay in three. Metrowater aims to provide connections within 15 days of application processing. The new system aims to improve efficiency and transparency in the water connection process for Chennai residents.
