Sat Apr 19 18:36:52 UTC 2025: ## Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Demand Pay Raise and Increased Staffing

**Chennai, April 20, 2025** – The Legal Coordination Committee (LCC) for Government Doctors in Tamil Nadu is urging Chief Minister [Chief Minister’s Name] to address long-standing concerns regarding pay and staffing levels within the state’s healthcare system. Ahead of a crucial debate on the Health department’s budget on April 21st, the LCC is demanding the implementation of Government Order 354, which pertains to doctors’ salaries and promotions.

The association highlights a significant pay disparity between Tamil Nadu’s government doctors and their counterparts in other states, estimating a shortfall of ₹40,000 per month for MBBS, MD/MS, and DM/MCh doctors. They are also calling for a doubling of doctor and nurse positions to strengthen the healthcare sector, arguing that despite numerous announcements by both the AIADMK and DMK administrations, improvements for doctors’ welfare remain unfulfilled.

To underscore their demands, the LCC proposes a substantial increase in annual budgetary allocation – ₹300 crore – specifically for raising government doctors’ salaries. Furthermore, they are threatening a march from Mettur to Chennai starting June 11th if their demands, including the implementation of GO 354 and the granting of pay band-4 after 12 years of service, are not met. The LCC hopes the Chief Minister will resolve the situation before the march commences.
