JODHPUR, Rajasthan – The Rajasthan High Court has established a five-member committee of lawyers to investigate and address significant shortcomings within the Government Advocate (GA) office. The committee, comprised of three lawyers from Jodhpur and two from Jaipur, will assess infrastructural needs, staffing levels, and security concerns, submitting its recommendations by May 20.
The court’s decision follows concerns raised about the handling of case diaries, inadequate infrastructure, insufficient staff, and low remuneration for state law officers, all contributing to procedural delays. Justice Farzand Ali noted a particularly alarming risk of case diaries being stolen or tampered with.
The committee’s mandate includes evaluating the current framework and proposing improvements in capacity, administration, and infrastructure. The court’s order emphasizes the need for enhanced security measures at the GA office, including a dedicated floor for security personnel and the deployment of at least six armed constables. The court also highlighted the need for an inspector-level police officer to ensure effective communication of court directives to police authorities. The final report is expected to provide empirical data, reasoned recommendations, and proposed reforms to bolster the office’s efficacy, accountability, and integrity.
