Kottayam, April 19, 2025 – The Department of Science and Technology (DST) has approved a ₹100 crore biomedical research project, with Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) as a key participant. The project, part of the Partnerships for Accelerated Innovation and Research (PAIR) initiative, focuses on AI-integrated risk factor prediction, biomarker development, and advanced theragnostics for fatty liver and diabetes.

MGU will receive over ₹10 crore of the total funding, collaborating with the University of Hyderabad as the Hub institution and five other spoke institutions. Seven MGU departments, including Biosciences, Environmental Sciences, and Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, are involved. Dr. E.K. Radhakrishnan from the School of Biosciences leads the MGU team. The project aims to significantly advance research and treatment in the areas of fatty liver disease and diabetes.
