**Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh –** YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of undermining democracy in Visakhapatnam. Reddy alleges that the TDP, despite holding fewer seats in the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), seized the Mayor’s post from the YSRCP’s G. Venkata Hari Kumari through intimidation and bribery.
The YSRCP holds a significant majority in the GVMC with 58 seats compared to the TDP’s 30. Reddy claims the TDP orchestrated attacks on YSRCP corporators to achieve this power grab, despite the next GVMC elections being a year away. He highlights that the YSRCP had appointed a woman from the Backward Classes to the Mayor’s position.
Reddy condemned the TDP’s actions as a blatant disregard for democratic processes and vowed that the people of Andhra Pradesh would hold the TDP accountable for its actions. He praised YSRCP corporators for resisting the TDP’s pressure tactics.
