Sat Apr 19 15:01:56 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh Launches E-waste Management Initiative

**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh – April 19, 2025** – Andhra Pradesh is taking significant steps to combat its growing e-waste problem, with the launch of a new state-wide initiative focused on responsible disposal and recycling. The announcement came Saturday from Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand, who highlighted the urgent need for scientific e-waste processing to protect the environment and foster sustainable economic growth.

India is the world’s third-largest producer of e-waste, generating 3.8 million tonnes annually, with only a small percentage currently being processed. Andhra Pradesh aims to address this by establishing Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) centers across the state to collect and process this waste. The initiative coincides with the state’s ongoing “Swarnandhra-Swachhandhra” cleanliness drive, with this month’s focus specifically on e-waste management.

The state government is investing in infrastructure to support this initiative. A dedicated RRR vehicle was launched in Guntur on Saturday, with plans to deploy two more soon, to collect e-waste from both urban and rural areas. Citizens are being incentivized to participate, with awareness campaigns held across the state.

The Chief Secretary emphasized that proper e-waste processing not only prevents pollution but also contributes to sustainable economic development. Swachhandhra Corporation Chairman Kommareddy Pattabhi Ram added that the upcoming state budget will reflect the revenue generation potential from e-waste recycling, turning waste into wealth. The initiative underscores Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable economic practices.
