Fri Apr 18 07:23:55 UTC 2025: **BJP Accuses Congress of Misusing National Herald Funds, Dares Leaders to Speed Up Corruption Cases**

NEW DELHI, April 18, 2025 – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) escalated its attack on the Congress party today, following the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) charge sheet in the National Herald case. BJP leader Anurag Thakur accused the Gandhis of acquiring ₹2,000 crore worth of properties through the National Herald newspaper without personal investment, alleging the Congress used the publication as a “personal ATM.” Thakur detailed how a ₹50 lakh loan from the Congress to Young Indian, a company 76% owned by the Gandhis, was used to acquire Associated Journals Limited, the newspaper’s parent company, for ₹90 crore. He questioned the legality of a political party providing such a loan.

Dismissing allegations of political vendetta behind the ED’s actions, Thakur challenged Congress leaders facing corruption charges to seek expedited trials, stating, “If they have guts, they should do it.” He criticized the Congress’s protests as the actions of “thieves making noise.” He also highlighted that the Gandhis have repeatedly sought court intervention since before the Modi government came to power, yet received no relief beyond bail. The BJP further accused Congress-ruled Himachal Pradesh of misusing public funds by placing advertisements in the National Herald, a publication Thakur claimed few people read, and demanded transparency on the amounts spent. The Congress continues to hold nationwide protests against the ED’s actions.
