**Bengaluru, April 17, 2025** – Karnataka Infrastructure Development Minister M.B. Patil has directed railway officials to reduce the travel time between Bengaluru and Vijayapura from 14-15 hours to approximately 10 hours. This ambitious goal will be pursued through route changes and infrastructure upgrades, according to a statement released following a high-level meeting with South Western Railway officials on Wednesday.

Minister Patil proposed several key changes to accelerate train services. These include diverting trains at Hubballi South to bypass the main station and utilizing the Gadag bypass to eliminate engine changes and reduce delays. Railway officials have reportedly responded favorably and pledged to expedite the proposed changes.

The meeting also covered several other railway projects. The Gadag-Vijayapura double-tracking project was discussed, with the potential introduction of Vande Bharat Express services contingent upon the completion of electrification and track upgrades near Bagalkote. Minister Patil also addressed land acquisition concerns regarding the Dharwad-Kittur-Belagavi line, announcing a public meeting in Mammigatti to resolve outstanding issues.
