Thu Apr 17 02:55:46 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh to Experience Above-Normal Monsoon Rainfall

**Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh – April 17, 2025** – Andhra Pradesh is expected to receive above-normal rainfall during the upcoming southwest monsoon season, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This follows a year in which the state experienced 21% excess rainfall between June 1 and September 30, with only 10 districts recording below-average precipitation.

While an updated monsoon forecast is expected by the end of May, the state is currently experiencing isolated rain and thunderstorms, offering some relief from the intense summer heat. However, IMD-Amaravati Director S. Stella cautioned that temperatures may rise next month, although further wind disturbances could alter this prediction. The IMD’s earlier forecast of above-normal maximum and minimum temperatures for the summer remains valid, despite the recent rainfall.

On Wednesday, April 16, most IMD stations recorded maximum temperatures below 40 degrees Celsius, excluding Kadapa and Anantapur. The IMD has predicted further rain with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds until April 20 due to several weather troughs. Several districts, including Anakapalli, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Kakinada, and Nellore, reported light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday, with Cheedikada in Anakapalli receiving the highest amount at 42.5 mm.
