Thu Apr 17 02:06:17 UTC 2025: ## Coimbatore Man Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for 2021 Murder
**COIMBATORE, April 17, 2025** – A special court in Coimbatore has sentenced R. Mani alias Joseph, 56, to life imprisonment for the murder of Bakyaraj, 40, in 2021. The victim, a Tirunelveli native, was working at a tea stall in Coimbatore when he was attacked.
Bakyaraj was found injured near Thadagam Road on August 29, 2021, and later succumbed to his injuries on September 3, 2021, at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital. Police investigations revealed that Mani murdered Bakyaraj by striking him on the head.
Mani was arrested and charged under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Following a trial that concluded on Tuesday, Judge K. Vivekananthan found Mani guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹5,000. The sentencing comes more than three years after the incident.
