**Chennai, April 16, 2025** – Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has urged a complete revamp of university curricula and teaching methodologies to equip students for the evolving global job market. Addressing a meeting with Vice-Chancellors and Registrars of all 21 state universities, Mr. Stalin stressed the need for a three-pillar approach focusing on relevant education, job creation, and inclusivity.
The Chief Minister highlighted the rapid technological advancements, including AI, green energy, and Industry 4.0, as key drivers shaping the future economy. He advocated for the integration of new fields like data science, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing into university programs. The goal, he said, is to produce graduates capable of providing innovative solutions, not just possessing theoretical knowledge. Collaboration with industry to design globally relevant, multidisciplinary courses was also emphasized.
Mr. Stalin further called for improvements to his “Naan Mudhalvan” scheme, which focuses on employment-linked skill development, and stressed the importance of strengthening campus placements and expanding training programs. He underscored the need for inclusive campuses, reflecting Tamil Nadu’s commitment to social justice. The Chief Minister expressed his ambition to transform Tamil Nadu’s universities into global centers for research and innovation, envisioning this era as a “golden age” for higher and research education.
Mr. Stalin also noted the potential for attracting returning Tamil Nadu talent due to economic policies in other countries, suggesting universities leverage this opportunity for research collaborations. He firmly emphasized the importance of maintaining a purely scientific approach within universities, rejecting any space for divisive opinions or activities.
