Tue Apr 15 16:10:00 UTC 2025: ## IRS Extends Tax Deadline for Residents of 13 States Hit by Natural Disasters
**Washington, D.C. – April 14, 2025** – The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced today that taxpayers in 13 states affected by recent natural disasters will receive an extension for filing their 2024 taxes. The deadline, originally April 15th, has been pushed to November 3rd, 2025, for residents of Arkansas and Tennessee, due to severe storms, flooding, and tornadoes that hit the states beginning April 2nd.
This automatic extension applies to all residents of Arkansas and Tennessee; no individual action is required. The IRS automatically grants filing and penalty relief to taxpayers with an IRS address of record in designated disaster areas.
The IRS has also extended deadlines for residents of other states impacted by natural disasters, including devastating wildfires in Los Angeles County. In these instances, relief is limited to residents of affected counties. A full list of states and counties qualifying for the extension is available on the IRS website.
Taxpayers outside of these designated disaster areas who require additional time to file can request an automatic extension until October 15th. However, any taxes owed are still due by the original April 15th deadline. The IRS reminds taxpayers to visit their website for detailed information and specific county-level designations.
