Tue Apr 15 15:32:12 UTC 2025: ## Andhra Pradesh’s New Minor Mineral Policy to Revive Mining Industry, Boost Economy

**Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh – April 15, 2025** – Andhra Pradesh’s new Minor Mineral Policy, finalized by the state cabinet, is poised to revitalize the mining sector, potentially benefiting over 200,000 employees and significantly contributing to the state’s GDP. The policy, lauded by the Federation of Minor Mineral Industry (FEMMI), addresses long-standing issues that have hampered the industry.

According to FEMMI Secretary General Dr. C.H. Rao, the policy will revive nearly 2,000 stalled mining operations. Key features include clearing years-long pending applications, implementing a one-time settlement for past violations with minimal penalties, and waiving additional fees for lease transfers within families.

The policy also introduces a tonnage-based seigniorage system to eliminate multiple taxation, rationalizes premium amounts, and allows for installment payments. A first-come, first-served approach to lease allocation, rather than auctions, is expected to attract new investors, except for select minerals like silicon, sand, quartz, and dolomite, which will remain under auction.

Dr. Rao expressed gratitude to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Principal Secretary of Mines Department Praveen Kumar for their support in implementing the long-awaited policy, emphasizing the mining industry’s historical contribution to the state’s economy. The new policy is projected to significantly boost Andhra Pradesh’s economic growth.
