**Guwahati, India (April 16, 2025)** – A groundbreaking seed germination database, compiled by the Ecological Restoration Alliance-India (ERA-I), was released today. This free, publicly accessible resource contains over 1,000 germination techniques for 465 native Indian plant species, significantly boosting efforts to restore degraded lands.
The initiative aims to simplify the process of establishing native plant nurseries, a crucial first step in ecological restoration. According to ERA-I, the database addresses the historically trial-and-error approach to native plant propagation, offering a wealth of knowledge to both novice and experienced nursery managers.
The database includes detailed information on species critical to India’s ecosystems, such as the banyan tree, mahua, and ashwagandha. The ERA-I emphasizes the importance of native plants in restoring ecological balance, highlighting their adaptability and resilience compared to non-native species.
