Tue Apr 15 03:26:50 UTC 2025: ## China Accuses NSA of Cyberattacks During Winter Games

**Beijing, April 15, 2025** – Chinese authorities have accused the United States National Security Agency (NSA) of launching sophisticated cyberattacks during the February Asian Winter Games, targeting crucial infrastructure in Heilongjiang province. Harbin city police have added three alleged NSA agents to a wanted list, and also implicated the University of California and Virginia Tech in the attacks, according to a Xinhua report.

The alleged attacks, which reportedly exploited vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows operating systems, targeted sectors including energy, transportation, water conservancy, communications, and national defense research. Chinese authorities claim the NSA aimed to sabotage critical infrastructure, incite social unrest, and steal sensitive information.

The accusations come amidst escalating trade tensions between the U.S. and China. This latest development follows a pattern of mutual accusations of cyber espionage, with both countries repeatedly alleging the other’s involvement in state-sponsored hacking activities. The U.S. Embassy in China has yet to respond to the allegations. While the report provides detailed accounts of the alleged attacks and individuals involved, it remains unclear how the two American universities were implicated. This latest escalation in the cyber warfare between the two superpowers further strains the already tense relationship.
