**New Delhi, April 14, 2025** – Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Sunday a government initiative to transform the city into a leading medical tourism destination. Speaking at the 70th foundation day celebrations of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Ms. Gupta stated that the government will significantly strengthen healthcare facilities to attract patients internationally.
“We aim to make Delhi a global destination for medical treatment,” Ms. Gupta declared. She emphasized that promoting health tourism would boost both medical services and the city’s economy. The Delhi government, she added, is actively working to reform and expand its healthcare sector.
The Chief Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting institutions prioritizing healthcare as a mission, not merely a service. She stated that the government will provide comprehensive support—policy, resources, and structural—to such institutions.
This commitment is reflected in the recent budget, which allocated ₹12,893 crore to improve health services. A significant portion of this, ₹2,144 crore, is designated for the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Yojana. Ms. Gupta concluded by stating that a “healthy Delhi is the foundation of a self-reliant India.”
