Mon Apr 14 12:11:12 UTC 2025: ## Thousands Celebrate Ambedkar Jayanti in Hyderabad, Memorial Opens to Public

**Hyderabad, April 14, 2025** – Despite scorching 37-degree Celsius heat, thousands of people gathered in Hyderabad on Monday to commemorate the 135th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The celebrations, centered around the 125-foot Ambedkar statue near NTR Gardens, were marked by enthusiastic chants of “Jai Bhim” and the waving of blue flags.

This year’s event held special significance as the memorial beneath the statue, typically inaccessible to the public, was opened for the first time in a considerable period. Long queues formed as visitors eagerly sought to enter and pay their respects. Inside, attendees viewed archival photographs of Dr. Ambedkar, including a notable image of his 1953 honorary doctorate from Osmania University. College students also displayed art installations inspired by the Indian Constitution.

The rare opening of the memorial drew positive responses. While some, like Sai Charan, a resident of Banjara Hills, reminisced about previous visits, others expressed hope for continued public access to the site. Shyam Kumar, a migrant worker from Bihar, patiently waited with his family for their turn to enter.

The event underscored the enduring legacy of Dr. Ambedkar and the ongoing significance of Ambedkar Jayanti in India.
