**Srinagar, April 14, 2025** – Political leaders in Jammu and Kashmir have united in their condemnation of reports that Saudi Arabia has cancelled 52,000 Hajj pilgrimage slots allocated to Indian pilgrims. Both ruling and opposition parties are urging the Indian government to intervene.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to appeal to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to immediately engage with Saudi authorities to resolve the issue. He highlighted the distress caused to thousands of pilgrims who have already made payments for their pilgrimage.

National Conference president Farooq Abdullah similarly called upon Prime Minister Narendra Modi to directly address the matter with Saudi leadership, ensuring the restoration of India’s Hajj quota.

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti echoed these concerns, stating that the abrupt reduction, reportedly affecting 80% of India’s private Hajj quota, has caused significant distress for both pilgrims and tour operators. She also urged the Ministry of External Affairs to intervene.

The reported cancellation has sparked widespread concern and prompted a united front from Kashmir’s political leadership in demanding swift action from the central government.
